Our modern education system has been a topic of debate for years. With popular critics claiming that the system was modelled on the interest and needs of the Industrial Age. With the rising cost of universities in many countries, many graduates with enormous debt are choosing not to pursue higher education altogether. Many lucky enough to have access to education are still finding themselves opposing the system, claiming that it is heavily outdated and in need of reform.
The Barcelona Experiment Documentary follows the journey of a group of people determined to revolutionise the education system, by creating a moving city campus that changes every year in different parts of the world. The experiment takes place in the city of Barcelona, where they discover if the project sinks of swim.
This is a side project collaborating with and directed by Triffany Leo that started off a year ago in February 2017 when we were working at Mindvalley. Being an online education company with a vision to reform the future of education, we were intrigued by the idea of a month-long experimental event project that our company is planning to run in Barcelona. Seriously, being the core film crew of five videographers that’ll be working there covering both the events and all other business-as-usual courses for the entire month in Barcelona; challenge accepted!
Oh, why don’t we jazz it up and punk-rock this production outside of our schedule. Totally worth it, because we believe in the story and the vision of this experiment. That’s how it happened, we’ve decided to document this experiment into a documentary and share it with the world. Nothing can stop us!
It was our first ever documentary and we had so much fun making this. A huge thanks to our Executive Producer; Vishen Lakhiani for funding this passion project and collaborating as one of the main spotlight talent in the film featuring himself. For also being the main inspiration of this project, he’s ideas and vision pushes us to do our best with everything we have.
It took us a full year from pre-production to the end of post production as we were working lean on our side most of the time.
Overall a massive group collaboration with Mindvalley Film crew, kaya butter co., Mindvalley and it’s experiment project attendees, education game-changers that Gordy Bal flew-in, friends and families.
It’s the harmony of experience, trust and collaboration that takes us further to whatever we want to learn and master. As much as you can learn anything theoretically, one would really need to practice to master anything in time and an added booster to keep you afloat in your completion game of the journey is the power of collaboration.
Oh and we got best cinematography from ARFF Barcelona 2019 monthly selections. We didn’t win anything but it’s a fun start.
